Nearly 70 organizations, including Arizona Justice For Our Neighbors, sent a letter to continue to demand a thorough and transparent investigation, justice and closure in the death of Carmelo Cruz Marcos (presente!), a 32-year-old father of three who was fatally shot by a Border Patrol agent on February 19, 2022 in the Douglas, Arizona area. Alba Jaramillo, our Executive Director and co-chair of the Southern Border Communities Coalition, stated: "The Border Patrol has once again taken the life of another person in our beloved borderlands. Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of this person. The secrecy and impunity in which this agency operates is a public safety issue. We demand accountability and transparency. We demand justice for this person's family." The Border Patrol must be held accountable for the excessive and fatal use of force. Justice can no longer be delayed or denied. Unfortunately, Carmelo has become one of hundreds of fathers, brothers, sisters and mothers who have been killed by Border Patrol agents along the U.S.-Mexico border, leaving our communities grieving, angry and outraged at the lack of genuine concern, and blatant disregard for the rule of law. This culture and practice of impunity MUST end! Our hearts go out to the family of this man who unjustly lost his life to the brutality of our militaristic policies. We demand justice for him and his family. If you want to support Carmelo's family, please donate or share the following link
